Rain, rain, go away...
Practice today was cancelled. Bawal daw bumaba at may bagyo at malakas ang ulan. We had some land exercises. Nagpa gutom muna and then we had pansit na pahanda ni Maui for her 2nd birthday. We stayed for a while longer and shared stories. After a few minutes, naghiwahiwalay na at mag swim at mag badminton pa yung iba. This is a very athletic group. Pagkatapos ng practice meron pang ibang activities. Relatively young group kasi o ako lang ang tumatanda. It is still raining and hopefully tumigil na sya so we can do other things.

It is always refreshing to have new blood in the dragonboat team. Makes me so happy because you know there will always be someone who will continue the PDRT Fireblades tradition. The team has been in existence for the longest time. We have seen a lot of people come and go. May mga bumabalik at mayroon din naman umaalis for some reason or another. Makes everyone more well aware that we are in a team sport and we cannot do dragonboat alone. 22 nga ang kailangan sa isang bangka diba. We are very much dependent on our team mates and whatever he or she does affects the whole team. Sa mga newbies kudos sa inyong lahat. Continue to practice at magpalakas ng husto. Of course all of us should practice, mapa bago man o luma. Lahat tayo dapat magpalakas at magpa kondisyon lalo na kung papalapit na ang karera. Pag dating sa loob ng bangka, walang bago, walang luma, ISANG BANGKA LANG TAYO.

many reasons why we row...
Oftentimes I wonder why we go through all the hassle just to be able to row. Come to think of it.. gising ka ng maaga, may amoy at marumi ang tubig, nagiging zombie ka pag dating sa office dahil sa pagod sa practice, at kung anu-ano pa...and yet dragon boat ka pa rin ng dragon boat...lalo na pag may race at araw araw na ang practice. You ask yourself bakit ko ba ginagawa ito? Ako personally have a lot of reasons that I can think of or rationalize bakit ko ginagawa ito. For one, its a bonding activity with hubby. We have shared the same passion for the sport and have great memories of rowing and competing together. Secondly, health. Siguro kung nag stop ako, I will grow so big like a refrigerator. Ngayon mini refrigerator lang but I am slowly loosing the excess weight. Thirdly, marami ring naituro sa aking lessons on leadership, dealing with other people, who your true friends are and even a few lessons on parenting. So pag na-da-down ka na or you feel like not going to practice. Think hard of what you can do for yourself and what you can do for your team. Getting the championship, time with friends and family will really pay off all the sacrifices and the hardships. What about you? Anong motivation mo?

Congratulations PDRT Fireblades!!!
maraming races na naka line up in the next few months. there is the manila ocean park, boracay, camsur and many other international races. it puts more pressure on us specially now that we have proven again that we are the leading club team. after the championships success in the summer sea sports festival, there is nothing else to do but maintain that position. we all know very well na maraming sacrifices that we had to make to get the championship in the recent race. for one, we had to practice as early as 5am para lang makakuha ng bangka. for several days we sacrificed the comforts of our beds for training sa marumi at mabaho na manila bay. another thing is the passion and dedication everyone showed. we all showed teamwork in its true form. kudos to all those who put the details together. i will not mention names, baka may makalimutan pa ako. in a team sport like ours, what each one does affects the other so let us make it a point to affect our team mates in a positive way. jhoan

not just another race
di ko na mabilang kung pang ilang dragonboat race ko na ito. each one is different. may iba ibang challenges from preparations to the actual races. getting more and more competitive each year. preparing for the races is a very challenging task. practice pa lang gets harder and harder. other details like uniforms, line up, collections, food and other details has to be attended to. kaya saludo ako sa ating lahat. tulad ng pag sasagwan, di natin ito magagawa kung ikaw lang mag isa. kailangan tulong tulong. till next time.

My first dragon boat experience
I remember when I was first introduced to the sport of dragon boat racing. I was in college when some guy friends invited me to join them and try the sport. They were gracious enough to give me a ride since it was so early in the morning. It was still dark and when the sun appeared I saw myself in the CCP dock. It used to be just coconut trees and lining the now paved Harbour Square. The CCP jogging club was the only group doing aerobics early in the morning. There were only very few teams. I never really took any sport seriously. I played basketball, volleyball, skateboarding, rollerblading, but nothing competitive. Before I knew it I was already training for the first ever women's national dragonboat rowing team. I have no regrets. All the years in dragonboating were very memorable. The competitions here and abroad have contributed much to the passion that I have for the sport and the life that I am living right now. It has become an integral part of the family schedule and advocacy.
